The LSRA today publishes an Implementation Plan for the 32 reform recommendations in its Breaking Down Barriers reports which are aimed at tackling economic and other barriers facing aspiring and early career legal professionals and increasing diversity in the legal professions.

As part of the implementation plan, the LSRA intends to establish and manage an implementation process involving all relevant stakeholders. These include the legal professional bodies, the Law Society of Ireland, the Honorable Society of King’s Inns and the Bar of Ireland, who will be invited to nominate representatives to sit on an Implementation Working Group which will be chaired by the LSRA’s chief executive Dr Brian Doherty.

The LSRA in September 2024 published its Breaking Down Barriers research reports with recommendations for reforms which are designed to improve equity of access and entry into the legal professions and over time to achieve greater diversity within the professions. Given the multi-faceted nature of the entry barriers and early career challenges identified, the Authority’s recommendations call for range of actions to be taken by various stakeholders including itself.

The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, requested the Implementation Plan and it was noted by Government at the cabinet meeting on 30th October 2024.
