Complaints to the LSRA must be made in writing. The easiest way to make a complaint is by using our Complaint Form.
Step 1 – Check the types of complaints that we handle
The LSRA handles three types of complaints about solicitors and barristers. Check our ‘What You Can Complain About page to see if the LSRA is the right place for you to make a complaint.
Step 2 – Download and fill in the Complaint Form
The Complaint Form asks you for details including:
- Your name and contact details
- The name and address of the legal practitioner (solicitor or barrister) you are complaining about
- The main points of your complaint including dates
- The results you would like us to achieve for you.
Complete the form providing all relevant information. Your complaint will be processed faster if you provide all information and all relevant documents with your Complaint Form.
Please note that a full copy of your complaint, along with any additional information you provide, will be given to the solicitor or barrister you are complaining about (and also the Law Society in cases involving a solicitor). Please write in a factual manner.
For information on what kind of documents to include as part of your complaint, please read our Complaints Information Guide ‘How to make a complaint about a barrister or solicitor.’
Filling in the form for someone else
If you are making a complaint on behalf of someone else, you must include the name and signature of that person.
If the person you are making a complaint on behalf of is incapable of giving their signed consent because of age or a mental or physical condition, you must indicate this on the form.
